There is an interesting body of thought that says bench sitting Prem players won't come to us in the Championship. Yet the general view from the betting companies is that we are favourites to win the league and certainly to be promoted.

That being the case, surely playing week in week out on the same salary you're getting for getting bum splinters, with an excellent chance of being promoted straight away and with a guarantee of a better salary then
Why wouldn't you?

Markro

1.) 22 Jul 2026 21:32:57
Obviously, not the way it works for many. You can see that.

2.) 22 Jul 2026 22:34:45
I dunno Markro, I'd take the bum splinters rather than do my job if I was offered it!!

3.) 23 Jul 2026 11:08:58
Joyful

I think the reluctance is agent driven. Agents are the bane of professional football.

4.) 23 Jul 2026 11:15:42
Lot to do with it, of course. Better deal for their client, better for them, it doesn't always work out though.

5.) 24 Jul 2026 09:32:53
Markro, I was going to post something this morning about agents and then saw your post. I totally agree with you, the whole problem with transfers and delays in the transfer window is caused by agents! Why can't we have a world where clubs deal with clubs, and then players agree terms with clubs? You sign the contract, then stay put until somebody offers you and your club more money to join them.

Is that too much to ask for? Agents are slowly but surely killing the game.

We need to sort this DoF position out quickly as there seems to be a reluctance to move forward to bring players in until it's done.

Markro

1.) 04 Jul 2026 16:53:57
I thought it was sorted. Koppen is joining as recruitment director, and that's it?

2.) 04 Jul 2026 17:01:59
No announcement = no progress in offering for talent elsewhere.

3.) 04 Jul 2026 17:40:24
Announced on club website about 3 hours ago.

Traore seems nailed on as Nuno’s first buy.

Markro

1.) 31 Dec 2025 14:45:24
Happy about that. Lots and lots of pace which is what we need

2.) 31 Dec 2025 21:17:53
A total waste of money.

3.) 31 Dec 2025 22:55:34
Markro / Mac3, totall agree 100%, Well pleased if that happens?Pacey battering ram can set others up??⚒⚒⚒

4.) 01 Jan 2026 03:07:58
I have to say I’m with Tin Legs on Traore, very uninspiring player who has failed to reach his potential at everywhere he has gone. Sadly another like Paqueta and Summerville with no end product

5.) 01 Jan 2026 07:34:11
Not over inspired because he has a similar end product to Summerville with less skill, but his pace and power could be handy. We are in desperate need of players and most of the options we have at the moment are slow or weak

6.) 01 Jan 2026 10:03:47
I’ve been disappointed with Summerville. Lots of hype beforehand, but what has he done of note since his arrival? Yes, he’s quick over the first 5 and quite jinky, but he rarely has a shot on target and hasn’t provided much, if anything by way of assists.

Traore is different in that he has power to go with his blistering pace, but similar in the shots on target and assist stats.

Both are often ahead of play without support. If Nuno can fix that, it could prove positive.

7.) 01 Jan 2026 11:08:56
We can’t rule anyone out at the moment. Sadly, we have to sell the club to players as they’ll know our current position. Beggars can’t be choosers.

8.) 04 Jan 2026 17:39:41
Traore is fast and a handful, built like a brickout house and very strong i also do like him, he can't be any worse than some of the shiiiit we have purchased lately.

Ex reporting Just Walking Pace is not even in tonight’s squad.

Good, if true.

Markro

1.) 29 Sep 2025 16:42:17
Yep not even on the bus apparently. So i applaud Nuno straight away. Wonder if he will bring youth in or Rodriguez who, let's face it is rubbish!

2.) 29 Sep 2025 17:15:52
If he want an easy way to get fans onside stick posts in

3.) 29 Sep 2025 17:16:23

I can't believe we have cooled our interest in Soloman, if the figures mentioned (£5m up front plus less than £3m promotion clause) are accurate.

For a competent winger from a PL club, it's peanuts. Is there an injury record/issue? Has he said he doesn't want to move to us?

The alternative wingers already mentioned are more expensive.

Someone explain it to me like I'm five.

Markro

1.) 06 Aug 2026 22:27:45
Markro, as others have said, I think it can only be as a result of worries over a backlash from a small minority of fans, but used the financials as an excuse.
But it just doesn't wash, because if we get promoted, we have to pay an additional 2.5 million in bonuses, which is peanuts.

Yet, if we don't get promotion, the financial implications are far worse.
If the player himself had done or come out with something outrageous, then maybe we should avoid, but he hasn't, so it's a terrible decision.

06 Aug 2026 21:43:07
I'm not so sure about these recent, surprise revelations about our awful financial situation. I cannot believe that a canny operator like Kretinsky hasn't always been fully aware of all of the details of our finances.

How would he have been able to persuade Bowen to stay if he didn't guarantee strengthening the squad?

Something doesn't feel right.

Markro

1.) 06 Aug 2026 23:22:20
I would think Markro Kretensky was going to inject cash but the stavely bid changed that, as you sauly he would be fully aware of the financial.situation and have a plan of how to deal with it, all these media leaks and take over bids only serve one person the poison dwarf

Very, very rich people are very, very rarely altruistic.

Just sayin'.

Markro

1.) 05 Aug 2026 16:44:46
Agreed, you don't usually end up with that much money unless you've been a right b****** in business, obvious examples excluded, musicians, film industry, sports people!
That's my opinion & we don't have to look far to see a good example. ??⚒⚒⚒

I'm beginning to wonder if the January window will be more important than this one.

Markro

1.) 05 Aug 2026 12:00:33
That's kinda where my head is at, Markro. We just need to be in with a shout come Jan, and hopefully kick on after.

The fun of the fair continues with Staveley’s offer to buy Sullivan’s shares, generously valuing the club at £600m.

Might be worthwhile Staveley and Kretinsky actually talking it out.

She sees the property development opportunity and apparently has the right contacts to make it work.

Surely that would increase the value of the club hugely to Kretinsky’s benefit.

Them fighting it out does nobody any favours, especially just before the season starts.

Markro

1.) 05 Aug 2026 13:40:40
According to one of the other posters on here, if they buy the club and the stadium, then that is their private property to sell when they want. I am not so sure that is correct. I would have thought it would be West Ham's, maybe they would own the land.

I do feel that both are after the land and real estate. Staveley is being open about it, whereas DK is keeping stoom, but I think that is why her surprise bid upset him so much, as that is his long term plan.
Hopefully they can work it out and work together.

2.) 05 Aug 2026 18:26:04
WH are renting the stadium, they own nothing now except Rush Green facilities.

If Taty gets injured, Nuno will move Bowen to the centre. Pablo will never be the sole target man. I think he'll sit behind whoever is up top.

Would I like another reliable, proven front man to come in? Of course, who wouldn't? But I think Pablo will get plenty of playing time this season.

I'll be disappointed if he doesn't get 8 to 10 goals in this league.

He scored plenty in Portugal. The question is: to what extent is the Championship a better league than the Portuguese one?

Agree about Veltman and Alvarez (who should be a real handful in the Championship).

Reinforcements up front are desperately needed, though. Talk of Dieng and Parrott needs to be more than just talk. The Soloman situation appears farcical.

Golambeckis, Orford and Kante could have breakout seasons.

All three will get plenty of game time this season. The first reads the game well and has a good positional sense, the second has decent vision for a pass, and the third reminds me of Diame with his power and drive.

Kretinsky has now sold 2% (ish) of his shares to a fellow Czech businessman. This will put him in a position to match Staveley's offer for all of the Gold shares without going above the 50% ownership point, which would have triggered the automatic buyout of Sullivan's shares.

Kretinsky is an extremely canny operator.

It's a shame he can't work with Staveley to invest in the club and secure its future.

Staveley would be interested in buying the stadium and redevelopment. She has the connections and the clout to get a lot done, but she clearly put Kretinsky's nose out of joint when she made the Gold deal.

We'll see, I guess.

Pessimists can either say, "I told you so," or be pleasantly surprised.

Those of us a tad more optimistic can either be relieved or disappointed.

It'll all come out in the wash.
