Despite being born and raised in England, Lee Carsley qualified to play for Ireland at international level on forty occasions due to his grandmother being from Cork.

Whilst playing for Ireland, he didn’t sing the Irish national anthem and he didn’t sing the English national anthem while in charge of the England under 21s either.

Personally, I couldn’t care if the coach sings the anthem as long as he is putting a good team out and we are competing for things. Fabio Capello never sang the national anthem while manager of England because he deemed it wrong to sing another nations anthem. There was no uproar then.

how on earth can he be match fit anyway, he's not played for over three months, this is a risky choice, you can argue that if no one gets injured or suspended he's not going to play, quite right, BUT injuries and suspensions happen, not clever this one in my opinion

He angers me Merceri. When he thought he was getting his big move to Man City his performances and effort slipped. Then through his own (alleged) stupidity that move fell through. At that point I’d have thought he would do everything he could in apology and play for our badge ….what does he do, nothing! Sloppy passes, no effort, no pressing, silly fouls . I quite agree re high wages, but surely it still must affect one’s mentality? Just because one gets paid a lot of money doesn’t get rid of the worry and doesn’t make one immune to pressure!

Mental health is a big deal therefore if he’s ill he shouldn’t be working/playing. If he is deemed fit to play, therefore one assumes isn’t ill, then he should be putting in the effort …. Either way I just don’t think he should be starting atm given the amount of options we now have

I think you misunderstand my use of the word ‘mentality’. I am in no way suggesting he is mentally ill! Mentality in this context means the way somebody thinks. To suggest he may be mentally ill is not only extreme, but is totally in error.
