Are there any other golden oldies posting on here like myself, if so what were your first memories of our beloved ⚒'s? My first idol would have been about 1952 ish as an 8 year old taken over with my Dad, Uncle, Cousin, he was a lightning right winger named Harry Hooper, I wanted to be a winger the same?
Was upset when he was sold to Wolves?
Big Ernie Gregory was the Keeper, Bond, Cantwell, Brown, Dick, Keeble, Grice, etc, etc! Then on through the decades!

Before each game they had a small Band in the Centre Circle, then just as the Team made there entrance one of the Band played the Post Horn Gallop on the Hunting Horn,
as ⚒'s made there entrance, I was enthralled as kid of 8ish in 1952, hooked on the Football and the ⚒'s from then on! COYI

Wow Chelmsford that is great senior knowledge ? Was bubbles our anthem back then? Mine in comparison was much more recent can’t remember my first match probably around 76 V Leicester. Most notable early match was at Highbury around 77 when we beat Arsenal 3.2 Billy Jennings scored two and Tommy Taylor got the other . Even better as my sister who is older was and still is an Arsenal fan. Happy daze ?

Not quite as experienced as you Chelmsford but my first game was 63 and we lost 3 2 to Blackburn can't really remember much about it but I guess it's why I generally agree with you on most things mate

I remember the days of Bobby, Geoff, Martin Peters, Johnny Sissons on left wing, young Frnak Lampard Sr, A very young Trevor Brooking and I think it was Barry, possibly Bobby Ferguson in goal sometime 1968. We went on a great run beat Bolton 7-2 after beating I think, Burnley and WestBrom handsomly. I was a Middlesbrough boy of 7, but watching the WEST ham boys play was majestic and it got me hooked. When I was 16 and got my first job, there was a West Ham supporters club minibus, used to leave outside Ayresome Park early Saturday mornings to travel all over UK following the HAMMERS and I was hooked.

Hammer, merceri, Daisy, thanks for the replies?Too many memories to print! Remember with my Dad and Uncle getting on a District Line Train home after a game& the great John Bond was on the Train with his Kit Back open and his WH shirt in full view, I was in awe of him as a kid, he got off at Barking Station, won’t see any now getting on a District Line Train?? Can remember the Turnstile attendant asking me to squeeze up close to the person already in there so he could charge 2 and only register 1, how much did he earn at each match, perks of the job, I seem to remember it being 1 old shilling in the Chicken Run = 6p now??
Ted Fenton was the first Manager when I was being taken to U.P. As I started work and went every home game, some great night games, Pop Robson scoring against Liverpool, the crowd went ballistic, worst memory was Geoff Hurst missing a penalty in the 2nd leg League Cup semi Final with Banks in goal for Stoke which would have took us to the Final????Too much more COYI ⚒⚒⚒⚒⚒⚒

Hammer-D, Just looked up when "Bubbles" became our Anthem, as I couldn’t remember, it’s been ours for over a century, apparently!

merceri, my age doesn’t mean a thing regarding my posts. In fact I’m probably stuck in a time warp.? But we did have some great players and played lovely football a lot of the time! When will we see that again?

Daisy, think that’s wonderful support from so far away travelling. Wow, but I know there’s several on here. Whitby is from the Yorkshire coast and a ticket holder. ?COYI ⚒⚒⚒⚒⚒

Corby, great left winger Sissons?Pacey with skill like most, we mostly try to mould ourselves as kids on our favourites as I did as well?In those days as well, most southern and northern clubs tended to have players from their region of the country mainly, obviously exceptions with exceptions of course!

Saw the great trio of Manu numbers of occasions over U.P even saw Denis Law when he was playing for Huddersfield before his great days at ManU, no idea what year that was but seem to remember it may have been in a Cup game?
