Our midfield options are looking stronger and stronger for next year. Even with the expected Obiang departure, we have recruited Fornals, are quite likely to get Joan Jordan; and Lanzini and Wilshere will be like new players as they were basically unavailable for most of last season.

A knock on effect of this is that Marcus Browne should be loaned out at a higher level than Oxford. Apparently there is talk of both of the old firm being interested. That sounds to me like a good deal for all three parties.

15 Jun 2019 17:24:20
So, immediately after the Fornals coup, MP and H are pushing our interest in both Maxi and Joan.

I think things will move quickly this week.

15 Jun 2019 09:36:52
What are all these reports saying there’s an issue with Lanzini because he wants more money? If we want to renew his contract ( his current one expires at the end of next season) then negotiate. Make the offer we are happy with and if he won’t take it, mov3 him on. We are definitely in a far stronger negotiating position now we’ve signed Fornals. Though, I must admit, I am excited by the prospect of Wilshere, Lanzini, Fornals and Anderson being in the same side.

1.) 15 Jun 2019 20:53:30
Agreed mate we on paper could have a serious midfield.

08 Jun 2019 13:00:24
Di Marzio reporting we are interested in a Gomez/ Lobotka package for €60m.

I really can’t see that happening, at all.

{Ed002's Note - Stanislav Lobotka would be a replacemnet for Declan Rice so it seems unlikely to me as well.

1.) 08 Jun 2019 14:39:39
Might not be a replacement for Rice as I can see Sanchez and Obiang leaving and with Noble not get any younger we could be looking to bring in a couple of midfielders at least, Lobotka and Jordan in, Sanchez and Obiang out, maybe?

{Ed002's Note - He plays in the same position as Rice.}

2.) 08 Jun 2019 17:45:52
Plenty of sides play with two holding midfielders.

Rumour has it Pellegrini thinks the midfield didn't give the defence enough protection last year and is looking for a foil next to Rice, with Lanzini or Wilshere to play in front.

{Ed002's Note - So changing the formation - more years in the wilderness or desparation?}

3.) 08 Jun 2019 20:38:02
Agree ed, i think there is a plan now with the team managment at west ham and wandering around isn't it anymore.

4.) 08 Jun 2019 21:39:35
I think you could have them in the same team different types of players. Lobotka very tidy and very good at beating the press and getting the ball forward in general.

Certainly not a like for like replacement they would probably complement each other quite well.

We changed the formation a lot last season anyway. So depending on who comes in perhaps we will see a more consistent formation.

I thought Pellegrini was supposed to favour 4222 but we don't really have the players for that.

5.) 09 Jun 2019 23:52:14
Ex is suggesting it is a deal being looked at (but as usual no guarantees)
Interesting comment iron al, you are correct, he used to employ a 4-2-3-1 at man city. I wonder whether he is going back to his roots?

6.) 11 Jun 2019 15:34:32
SSNsaying we are in talks to sign FORNALS from villareal any truth ED please. COYI.

{Ed002's Note - His agent says there have been positive discussions. I have been on a plane all day.}

7.) 12 Jun 2019 00:47:45
Anyway it's dead in the water as apparently we have offered €25 mill and they want €31 mill so it will carry on we bid they say no . COYI.

8.) 12 Jun 2019 00:43:37
Where you going or returning from Ed Oz . COYI.

{Ed002's Note - Madrid then Israel

9.) 12 Jun 2019 06:46:20
25m Eur to 31m Eur not so far apart.

Seems a change in strategy though if the rumours of moving from Lobotka to attacking midfielders like Fornal.

Either way it would seem Sullivan has taken a step back and Husillos has ramped up.

Ed002 would you concur Sullivan has backed off? If so we just have to hope Husillos is a better operator than Sullivan, which is a pretty low bar.

I'm never quite comfortable with the idea that these guys have favoured agents they use as would seem to limit the player pool and also reeks of kick backs, but that's just a hunch.

{Ed002's Note - I would hope he has.}

04 Jun 2019 14:20:40
Reports now about Inter wanting Arnie back. Carroll and Perez gone, Hernandez almost certain to leave and now rumours about Arnie leaving too.

Well, that would give MP a clean slate to assemble his own strike force. We would need two high profile central strikers to spearhead our attack and I wonder what the budget is for that.

1.) 04 Jun 2019 15:50:29
Not too sure he will be leaving. Seems like Pelle wants him as one of his up top strikers.

2.) 04 Jun 2019 19:50:53
Not for that quoted price we already have to replace 2 strikers and I won’t be surprised if stoke have a sell on clause. i still think it would be madness to completely change the front four Arnie n Chico will stay.

3.) 04 Jun 2019 20:10:56
Well chaps, you know what will happen now Sturridge is a free agent?

4.) 04 Jun 2019 20:48:36
Sturridge and Welbeck wouldn't be bad back up options on a free provided they weren't on stupid money or long contracts. It Would help the home grown quota too - a lot.

Sturridge, as far as I'm aware got through last season with no major issues but admittedly was used sparingly by Klopp. Welbeck I think, is fit again after his ankle surgery. Hmmm. Both good players. When they're fit.

Could be worth a punt if Arnie's staying and Pelle really is looking to bring in another main man for the CF position. Striking options of Arnie, A. N. Other, Welbeck and Sturridge wouldn't be half bad.

5.) 04 Jun 2019 22:04:11
would be worth enquiring about a swap arnie for lautaro martinez! never gona happen but would be nice for us.

6.) 04 Jun 2019 23:12:13
I'd cash in on ARNAUTOVIC right now as after another season and your getting to or already hitting 30 your value drops quite a bit and at this part of his career we could get £35 million IMO and then go for WELBECK or MITROVIC preferebly the latter because of his age although I think given a run in a side and told you are my no 1 striker WELBECK would get you 20 goals a season IMO. COYI.

7.) 05 Jun 2019 08:18:10
Chaps Arnie is a top top player when his head is right and will always score goals, even as Whory said he will be hitting 30, why does there have to be a sell on?, what can you buy with £35m these days?, even spending £50m on a player who has never played in the Prem would be a gamble. If he wants to stay he can go at least another 2 seasons scoring, and by than he will prob end up in China or the US and we may even get £10m - £15m at that time.

No for me unless a bid of £50 plus comes in for him if he head is right than I would like him to stay put for a couple seasons.

Sturridge may be worth a shout, on a basic and a pay as you play big bonus

To be honest I trust MP big time, so who ever he decides needs to go and bring him Ill trust his judgement.

8.) 05 Jun 2019 09:32:40
Why on earth would you want to sign Welbeck? I can't even remember the last time he played for Arsenal he's spent so much time injured. Honestly. have you not learnt your lessons already from signing these injury prone players? Absolute madness, and it's the same with Daniel Sturridge - they're quality players, but we need to steer well clear from them.

Also, just a heads up, the most goals Welbeck has scored in a prem season is 9. so how you've come to the conclusion he'll bang 20 in I have no idea - what you smoking bro, can i have some? lol.

9.) 05 Jun 2019 10:57:03
Welbeck is a lot like Antonio in my eyes, i would not go for ANY players with major injury histories this summer. We already have Lanzini, Yarmolenko, Sanchez, Wilshere and Reid all coming back from injury, and with NO guarantee that they will stay fit next season. Same as Sturridge AVOID
On Arnie, my personal opinion is that he is simply not consistent enough. Fantastic when on his game, but only on it for 10 games a season. The rest of the games he is carried and the whole team performance can suffer with no spearhead. I would rather have a player that plays 8/ 10 consistently across a season than one who is 9/ 10 for just 10 games. This said, I would love him to get his head in the WHU game and score us 20 next year! It is MP's risk to take, and job to manage.
Just a side thought, lots saying we are losing all our strikers (assuming Chica goes), but with this link to Kostas Fortounis, could it be that Antonio is thought of as a striker after a good run at the end of the season where he often switched up top later on in the games?
Fortounis from the right, Anderson from the left and then a squad of 4 ST from Arnie, Antonio, Mitrovic, Rondon, Wesley, Gomez, Xande Silva, Marega . and any other of the 1,000 strikers we are apparently watching. Maybe even if Chica goes we still only need ONE key striker signing?

10.) 05 Jun 2019 21:05:32
Sturrridge and Wellbeck would be great signings on pay as you play, otherwise it would not be a good deal. We already have Wiltshire who will get injured in the first game he plays. We’ve just got rid of Carroll so we DO NOT want another injury prone player on £50k plus each week.

11.) 06 Jun 2019 01:32:19
Hi TK I don't smoke drugs or anything to do with that rubbish as I personally have seen what it does to people anyway WELBECK has scored more goals this season than LUKAKU despite playing 636 minutes less than him he's scored 5 goals in 11 games not bad and it's only the last year he's been injury hit and gI've a full match fit season I believe he would get very near or hit that target the reason I say sell ARNAUTOVIC is he's got as much interest in WEST HAM as THERESA MAY has about BREXIT who would you go for TK and by the way I'd prefer MITROVIC over WELBECK anyway. COYI.

12.) 06 Jun 2019 03:35:26
Sturidge is 160k a week does anyone think he will drop down to 80k a week.

13.) 06 Jun 2019 06:37:42
Bbk, yes he will. With his injury record he knows he will have to take a pay as play - same as Welbeck.

I must be getting cross-eyed after too much women’s World Cup! Are we really after a Joan and a Muriel?

14 Jun 2019 13:43:36
Fornals is a top signing - young, talented, not on silly wages - exactly what we want. He will increase in value rapidly in the most watched league in the world.

So refreshing to see this deal done so speedily and with such little fuss.

13 Jun 2019 09:05:20
City at home first game. Ah, well.

12 Jun 2019 17:04:49
Fingers seriously crossed that the Fornals reports are true. If so, what a great start to the outfield window.

11 Jun 2019 16:03:06
Just for info:

In Italy this all led to claims that Napoli were losing out. The Serie A side tried to sign Fornals in the January window, but weren’t able to build a deal.

Since then it’s been claimed they’ve returned for another go, and therefore the suggestion was Napoli have lost out to West Ham.

Some Italian sources have it otherwise.

CalcioNapoli24 have covered words from journalist Marcello Calvano on a radio station which covers Napoli.

He’s quoted as saying: “I was able to speak with the representative of the Toldra brothers, the representatives of Villarreal’s Spanish midfielder Pablo Fornals. They confirmed there’s a €27m offer from West Ham, and now negotiations will begin to reach an agreement with the player. The last time January showed up was around January, but there were no further contacts.

True, MarkWhu, but it doesn’t have to be a midfielder. If, for example, a deal is done with MU for Diop, then we buy Maripan, there will be a significant profit.

No thanks, 04. We’ll keep him for now.

{Ed004's Note - I don't see him leaving West Ham this summer tbh. Hes about the 60th player we have been linked with so far}

Pretty sure that’s just media hot air. I can’t imagine why we’d consider selling DR when MP and H are clearly intent on building a vibrant young side.

I’m in two minds. There’s no doubting his ability and on a free, it sounds almost too good to miss, but he is a nutcase and has a history with Arnie of being the Chuckle Brothers.

It could be an MP master stroke, but it could go t*ts up.

Both are skilful dribblers with an eye for the killer pass. Fornals crossing seems top class from the clips I’ve seen and he is two footed.

I could certainly see Anderson, Lanzini and Fornals as both wingers and a 10 in any combination.

The other important point is that MP is building a squad, not just a 1st XI.

Whilst he will, of course, improve with experience, I can see no weaknesses in his game. Check his stats.

However, even though there is always a price at which a deal might be done, WH will do their utmost to hang on to him.

“Agents have been testing our resolve to hold onto him through Director of Football Mario Husillos and this morning via an e mail a top Hammers insider made the club’s position as clear as it gets to ClaretandHugh.

He said: “It’s very simple – he is going nowhere. He is a major part of the team and at his age is set to become an integral part of things at West Ham. ”.

{Ed004's Note - I still maintain my stance that I think he will stay just trying to keep optimistic that we wont spend stupid money on an overrated Maguire tbh. Thanks for your feedback}

I think the club would sanction a £60m transfer and trust in MP&H to find a decent replacement. At times we forget that football clubs are businesses and that includes player turnover for profit to reinforce the team with more appreciating assets.

It really does seem that the new recruitment team is concentrating on young, classy players now. It wasn’t that long ago that we would all wonder which over the hill name Sully we go for every window. Thank heavens our transfer policy has changed!

So, with a bit of regret, my answer is, yes, we would let Diop go, if the price is right.

{Ed004's Note - Would he be worth 60 million from Utd perspective? We need a dominant cb who is comfortable playing the left cb role to play alongside Lindelof}

We really need another striker. I think Hernandez will go and that only leaves Arnie, Antonio and Xande as possible front men.

I think you concede fewer goals with four keepers.
