Football Espana reporting that we have activated Maxi Gomes release clause.

Is this nonsense, or is there anything in it?

Markro

1.) 07 Aug 2018 12:27:43
WE shall soon find ou. IRONMIKE.

04 Aug 2018 09:41:08
So Marega is making himself clear to Porto by missing training and saying he won't play. It is disappointing to read about WH fans excited about this because he wants to come to us.

We're not Marseille.

Markro

1.) 04 Aug 2018 10:03:22
It is disappointing to hear that Marega has taken to this measure for a transfer, but to play devils advocate we don't know what he has been told by Porto. There is every chance that they told him should we get a 30m bid we will let you leave, and once the bid arrived went back on his word. Therefore took the only cause of action he though he could (or advice of agent) to push a move closer.

Let's not forget Marko did the same with Stoke when he wanted to leave them for us too. Unfortunately this is where football has come nowadays, not saying it is right (I am personally not a fan of it) but part of the culture now.

2.) 04 Aug 2018 10:52:29
All I'd say is this may be Marega's last chance to play in the prem. At 28 and without much other interest from other clubs his time is running out to play in biggest league in the world. I don't condone how he might be going about it but I can understand the desire to push it through. The Portuguese league is a bit pony, let's be honest, so personally if I had a shot to play in the prem, on the big stage, with the best players and the big wages I'd do anything to get the deal o wrote the line.

3.) 04 Aug 2018 10:58:10
Unfotunarly that's the power of players now days Payet has done it twice I think Marco pushed his transfer through, i'm not losing sleep as at mo nothing to do with us, just have wait and see how it pans out.

4.) 04 Aug 2018 11:11:45
I agree with all the above and maybe I’m misjudging because I don’t know the circumstances, but on the face of it, it doesn’t look good.

5.) 04 Aug 2018 12:06:23
I don’t like it at all. It’s shockingly unprofessional and disrespectful. When they were paying his wages every month he never complained and now he behaves like this when things aren’t going his way. As you have rightly said Payet did it to us and we were fuming with him.
What happens if he signs for us and Man Utd decide they want him and we say no? What he if doesn’t pitch up for training and doesn’t want to play for us? What happens if Man Utd come in got Arnie and make a bid of £45m and we say no? What if he downs tools? I don’t like it and would rather see a player join us or be linked with us if they are consummate professionals and honour their contracts and respect the club they are already at and the fans that have been supporting that club. Maybe I’m just old fashioned.

6.) 04 Aug 2018 12:29:54
Nobody knows what happened behind the scenes. Porto could be making life very difficult for Marega. I wouldn't judge the man until I knew exactly what the full story was. Believe none of what you hear and only half of what you see (unless you hear it from Iron Mike)

01 Aug 2018 20:44:36
Bearing in mind. That we're not going to buy all we've been linked with, I'm sure some must be red herrings and diversions.

Markro

1.) 01 Aug 2018 21:41:21
Probably casting the net rather than putting our eggs all in one basket so we don't get let down.

I think talk of smokescreens and alike is kinda nonsense. unless husillos is extra crafty I don't know.

2.) 01 Aug 2018 21:48:25
Is it the player from betis mike.

3.) 01 Aug 2018 21:52:24
I didn't know he was injury prone mike no wonder he'd gone off the radar as he was touted to be spains next DAVID VILLA.

4.) 01 Aug 2018 21:58:00
I hope not you mean the injury king. IRONMIKE.

5.) 02 Aug 2018 00:04:42
Yes mike sanabria.

01 Aug 2018 13:31:46
If reports of Middlesbrough's Interest in Hugill are true, we might want to consider a Traore package deal.

Markro

1.) 01 Aug 2018 15:16:36
Hope our interest in MEYER is finished as he ain't great decent but for the wages he wants not worth it imo. COYI.

2.) 01 Aug 2018 16:47:10
Big news mike we are APPARENTLY trying to sign 2 players and are in talks with 1 the players in question are BRAHIMI and GOMEZ from celta vigo any truth at all mike?

3.) 01 Aug 2018 17:16:18
Read that on news now, so probably a load of cojones!

4.) 01 Aug 2018 17:36:42
No it’s true re Brahimi and Maxim but we havnt made a formal bid for either as yet Brahimi would be complicated for part ownership reasons as Porto own only 50% of the player it’s a tooth puller and we have travelled that road before With him Whilst Maxim is straightforward if We can put a deal Forward for about 34 m euros we can have him IRONMIKE.

5.) 01 Aug 2018 18:43:16
I read it elsewhere but not everything on news now is bullrubbish they get news from other parties and simply exaggerate thorsiron. COYI.

{Ed001's Note - newsnow don't exaggerate, they just collate links.}

6.) 01 Aug 2018 19:01:52
I use newsnow all the time. You pick up a feel for which reports might have some truth in them and which are mere speculative, tabloid pot-stirring.

{Ed001's Note - it is simple enough to hide publications such as HITC and avoid some of the dross.}

New rumour about Kouyaté to Porto. If true and we're considering letting Obiang go back to Italy, we will need at least one more DM before the window closes.

Markro

1.) 24 Jul 2018 19:30:16
Let Kouyate go
Love him to bits but he had a bad season and older than obaing
Who i think could kick on under MP

The goal against spurs He has to stay.

2.) 24 Jul 2018 20:03:42
I’ve seen the offer for Kouyate is £14.2m.

3.) 24 Jul 2018 20:56:03
Who would you giys like to see him replace realistically for the same price? I would have saif will higes a few years back but how times vhachange nge.

4.) 24 Jul 2018 21:21:07
will hughes completely different type of player, would much prefer a holding midfielder. not a william carvalho type as we have that with rice or oxford who either could excel at just sitting in front of the back four, but someone more in the kante mold-energetic, sideline to sideline, all over the pitch kinda guy. Ben Pearson is a guy that could play that role or the mendes guy we are being linked with.

5.) 24 Jul 2018 21:26:03
Thanks for all the info IRONMIKE. I know that he’s a different type of midfielder (and I’m not exactly sure where he’d fit in) but is there any chance of Rafinha on loan with option? Mawson at CB too but know that’s greedy!

6.) 25 Jul 2018 08:57:41
Palace now interested in Kouyate. A paltry £10m has been mentioned, but staying in London might appeal to him.

7.) 25 Jul 2018 11:39:26
Therein lies the problem WH cannot force aplayer to go to a club he does not wish to go too even if they want to pay more money IRONMIKE.

8.) 25 Jul 2018 11:57:48
Could we not ask the question - kayoute, Antonio and cash for Zaha.

9.) 25 Jul 2018 12:16:05
So that would be Yarmolenko right wing, Zaha left, Arnie in the middle and Anderson as 10.

Might be interesting, though Zaha is hot and cold.

If Pelle is really that keen on Nasri, make the following humble financial suggestion.

As he could come on a free, but wants a
£5m wages, do it as follows:

One year contract with a signing on fee of £5m payable in 52 weekly instalments. Give him a weekly wage of £1 so that he appears on the payroll. Renewable renegotiated contract by mutual agreement at the end of the year.

That won’t damage our wages bill form a FFP perspective.

Markro

{Ed025's Note - im sure nasri and his advisers would jump at that markro(not), so good luck with that mate.. :)

1.) 11 Nov 2018 18:38:52
You may have guessed, I’m not keen on him coming at all, Ed. It will be interesting to see if any other side wants him for that sort of wage after an 18 month ban and at his age. I’ve read that he is an egocentric so and so and a negative presence off the field.

My tongue in cheek suggestion above would give him the cash he wants for the first year, be good for our FFP and make him prove himself if he wants an extension.

My preference is that he comes nowhere near our club.

{Ed025's Note - i think that would be the best thing markro mate..

2.) 12 Nov 2018 15:37:12
So much for my preferences!

Six month contract at £80k a week reportedly being discussed, even though he can’t play till January.

09 Nov 2018 16:54:00
As usual, we’re being linked to all and sundry.

Almiron and/ or Gabigol would add to an improving squad. Nasri - no thanks.

Brahimi at £5m (if true) is a thought.

We need to offload a few in January. There is talk of Chicharito moving to Turkey on loan, but I’d be amazed if they could afford anywhere near his wages. Carroll can leave too.

Markro

1.) 09 Nov 2018 19:18:39
. as can Antonio.

04 Nov 2018 12:10:27
Mitroglou? Surely not. If there really are enquiries about him, why? Is Pelle looking elsewhere just in case Arnie is poached by Chelsea, Man U or a foreign side in January? If that’s the rationale, set your sights a tad higher please!

Markro

1.) 04 Nov 2018 17:26:59
He couldn't perform in the championship for fulham and was soon released this is what makes me believe someone will get ARNIE on the cheap.

03 Nov 2018 17:24:36
Some of our interplay up front today was really classy. Arnie and Anderson are just starting to have a terrific partnership. Diangana was very good too. Anderson is beginning to produce end product.
How good could we be when Lanzini is fit again?

Markro

1.) 04 Nov 2018 00:48:20
A few things stood out today quite a few things here we go right ANDERSON ain't a winger he's a No 10 Imo we have unearth a diamond in DIAGANA and three the one i have a real problem and sadness is that ARNAUTOVIC is playing football now that i diddnt think he was capable of he reminds me of ZLATAN i truly believe he's that good at this moment in time but what this means is and heres the sadness he's more than capable of playing for one of the top four and that's were i think come january he will be going unfortunately but we must get this right and not let him go on the cheap because i would ask for top dollar i mean in the region of £60 million i get that he's getting on a bit but he's still got 5 years at the top IMO.

2.) 04 Nov 2018 09:59:49
Famous last words, but I can’t see City or Liverpool being interested in Arnie. Man U might be, but I think Chelsea is the threat. Morata hasn’t done it for them and Giroud lacks Arnie’s all round game. Not moving from London could sway him. To counter that, he is a real fan favourite with us and loves the attention.

I agree that Anderson is better as a 10 (it’s where he wants to play) - great first touch and initial burst of speed and an excellent eye for the killer pass.

Diangana has burst onto the scene: other sides will now have a good look at him to see how best to counter his wingplay. He must enjoy his current playing time as I feel he’s keeping Lanzini’s place warm and might well revert to the bench. His current form deserves a match day squad place at least.

I have been very keen for us to sign Almiron in Jan. Imagine the last 10 games of the season with Anderson, Lanzini and Almiron fluidly interchanging positions in support of Arnie.

We have a serious opportunity to rake in a really good haul of points in the next two months. The only game where points are unlikely is City on 24/ 11.

Probably the key immediate issues are Rice’s contract and sorting out a decent left back.

03 Nov 2018 09:51:44
The wages debate is an interesting one, but introducing a smaller basic wage which is supplemented by large appearance top ups is dangerous. In your squad of 25 only 14 can play in any Prem game.

It would be better to base bonuses on points. For each point the team wins each of the squad receives a percentage of his basic wage. That way rewards are based on success.

Appearance money is divisive and can lead to serious manager/ player issues.

It is also true that players will not come to a club where the basic weekly wage is less than elsewhere.

Allowing Rice to slip through our fingers would be madness.

Markro

1.) 03 Nov 2018 10:18:18
All good points, it just depends which way you look at it. IRONMIKE.

2.) 03 Nov 2018 12:05:54
Markro/ Mike, don’t think it’s good for present players or future incoming if we have a structure that is to different from the majority of clubs, it can alienate us from other clubs? It can always be argued by certain more fringe players that they aren’t being picked because we don’t want to pay them appearance money! Totally agree we must get Rice sorted or he will say enough is enough!

3.) 03 Nov 2018 16:02:44
Changing the subject but we need to tie DIANGANA to a long contract because he's a diamond that needs polishing a bit but what a talent and we should be out of sight in the first half but what is it with us conceding goals right at the death of each half no matter if it's the 45th Mon or 90th minute it's all down to not concentrating for the whole game you just cannot switch off at any time against any team in the premier League as you will and we have been punished yet again we have had this problem for years and we are top of one league and that's throwing away a winning lead so fingers crossed it doesn't happen in the second half as for the majority of the first half we were superb against a very moderate Burnley team that's the only negative as we should be beating teams like this . COYI.

4.) 03 Nov 2018 17:55:09
Agreed IRONMIKE.

We have both Holland and Xande returning from injury and both are wingers by trade and fast and skilful. There has also been talk of Almiron in Jan and he is a winger/ 10. Lanzini is ahead of schedule.

I don’t think we need to look beyond that.

Left back is still the issue for me.

I have read that it might be a FFP issue and that we will sort out a mutually agreeable contract for Rice once we’ve shipped one or two (or three or four) out in the Jan window.

I really have conflicting views about Hernandez. On the one hand his career stats are undeniably outstanding (right place at the right time), on the other he rarely seems to influence a game, especially when he starts.
It could be that Man U had it spot on: he starts on the bench and comes on for the final 25mins, to pop in a goal v a tiring defence.
That does, of course, make him a very expensive super-sub bearing in mind his mega wages.
I don’t think I would be particularly upset if he moved on.

The signing of Perez means that we now have healthy competition for places up front. I’d be surprised if Antonio left today, but it depends on MP’s view and whether the books need a bit of balancing.

Strange game really. Pelle should have prepared us better for their pressing, which we clearly found hard to counter. I felt sorry for Arnie, who was consequently isolated at times, which meant he went wider and wider to look for space.

Unfortunate that Rice and Diop had below par games at the same time.

It will be interesting to see how Pelle manages the availability of Carroll and Wilshere for the City game. Both owe us performances.

I know it’s a long way off, but Lanzini’s return can’t come quickly enough for me.
