Some of the names being banded about as West Ham targets are actually quite exciting and I can see Tim Steidten's influence with a some of them. Whether we sign any of them is a whole different matter.

TAYLOR HARWOOD-BELLIS in the centre of defence. Young and English, captained the England under 21 team to victory at the recent Euros.

IAN MAATSEN at left back. He had at outstanding season at Burnley in the Championship last year on loan from Chelsea. Would be a great addition. Young, bags of pace, has bags of potential and can play as a wing back as well.

MAX AARONS at right back. He seems to have been around for ages now, but still only 23 years of age. Again has bags of pace and can play as a wing back.

EDSON ALVAREZ in my opinion is an outstanding option as the defensive anchor in midfield. He has great stamina, reads the game superbly, is strong in the tackle and seems perfectly suited for Premier League football. He can also play centre back should we need him to as well.

CONOR GALLAGHER would walk in to our current starting line up. He is an upgrade on Soucek and Downes, albeit a little more attack minded, but would be a perfect addition to our engine room, and again has the potential to improve (he is still only 23).

HARVEY BARNES would be the perfect complement to Bowen on the opposite wing. Strong, pacey and can put the ball in the back of the net. I know there is talk of him going to Newcastle, but I still harbour a hope given recent Newcastle links to the Napoli wide man Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.

ARMANDO BROJA as a forward would be a decent addition too. Ok, admittedly he was out injured for a lot of last season, but he works hard, is physically strong, relatively pacey, has Premier League experience, scores goals and is probably feeling like he has a point to prove given the lack of opportunities at Chelsea.

Got to be honest, that would actually be the perfect transfer window for me, so let's face it, none of it will come to fruition. HAHAHA

We can all dream though

LMFAO, nope it won't happen LMAO. More like Mctominay, Maguire, Phil Jones, Robbie Savage, Gary Neville and Cavani (is there a link there somewhere LOL)? Personally, its time our board see sense and end MOYES tenure with our great club because the way we are going we are not going to be ready for the new season. Our squad is already one of, if not, the smallest in the Premier league and more and more players are leaving. Latest news also suggests he wants to revamp the front line and get rid of SCAMACCA, ANTONIO AND INGS (added to this RICE, LANZINI, Possibly Fornals, Cresswell possibly to Wolves, Johnson and Kehrer could all be gone! He has his eyes on Broja. I worry because we can't get a suitable replacement for DECLAN RICE so what chance any position?

2.) 19 Jul 2023 14:34:11
The overreaction on this site to our summer transfer business is almost unbearable! Let's see where we are at 11pm on the 1st September before we start passing judgement on summer recruitment.

3.) 19 Jul 2023 15:07:40
Lets be honest here, its more urgent and important where we are at start of the new season rather than 01st Sep

4.) 19 Jul 2023 15:08:09
What transfer business? We are selling everyone

5.) 19 Jul 2023 15:48:02
As far as I understand, only one starter has left the club and another player who is 30 and has been on the fringes this past season. Yet we're selling everyone?

6.) 19 Jul 2023 17:18:20
More have left, including backroom staff than have arrived!

7.) 19 Jul 2023 17:31:14
Oshee, please see my comment earlier today at 2.34pm.

8.) 19 Jul 2023 18:05:10
It's good business to bring in replacements before you let players go or at least have them line up what have we done
Absolutely nothing
What they doing trying to get as much interest on the money sitting in the bank

9.) 19 Jul 2023 20:17:17
Not fussed on Max Aarons, been poor when he's played in prem and he's hardly set championship alight.

The rest would be good signings.

@plugger, Yes we have lost lanzini who was more of a fringe player last season but still played an important role in the European games and will need replaced.

Unfortunately we've just lost our captain and arguably our most important player. I don't mind us waiting on other targets that may be less pressing but the Rice replacement should already be signed up, We can't afford to wait for better value by going in later in the window we need to settle in players ASAP.

10.) 19 Jul 2023 21:04:07
As Ed02 said only yesterday, "West Ham are actively pushing to sign players and talking with clubs" No need to panic just yet.

11.) 19 Jul 2023 22:02:57
I fully accept that, Plug. In fact the present tense sentiment expressed in that line has been used in every summer window I can remember. Sadly it all too often develops into the well worn past tense phrase, “We tried.”

We all know we need players in a variety of positions to come into the squad and the sooner it happens the better integrated they will be for the ever nearing first day of the season.

Sullivan has a track record of thinking he’s playing it cute and exerting pressure by delaying until deadline day approaches to get the best deal.

12.) 20 Jul 2023 07:25:37
Exactly Mmpr. Its Sully up to his old tricks trying to get the cheapest option available until of course when its too late and then they panic buy.

3 weeks tomorrow and the new season starts and there is no getting away from the fact that we have one of, if not THE smallest squad in the premier league and we may not be finished losing players. MOYES says he wants to revamp his forward line and INGS, SCAMACCA and ANTONIO can leave.

Teams need to let new players bed in and get used to the team. Look at Paqueta and Co last year?

13.) 20 Jul 2023 11:14:56
Given the amount of time Moyes wants to "bed" players in, I think pluggernaut is missing the boat and Oshee has a very valid point. We all know the player situation, but the frustrating thing is the delayed lack of activity. Had our lot planned this properly, knowing full well that the Rice money was coming from one source or another, all the spadework on our top targets should have been done and dusted, with just the 't's left to cross and the 'i's left to dot. It appears that our board have been taken by surprise on a subject everyone has been talking about for months. Negotiations do happen before the window opens, don't they? It's only during the window that it's all revealed to the world. As all other Prem clubs do their business, Sully is biding his time to grab the leftovers for a 'nice little earner'. In Moyes, he has just the manager to go along with it. Crazy.

19 Jul 2023 11:59:03
Eds, is there any truth in the Ian Maatsen links with West Ham?

Quality young left back with bags of potential. Definitely a Tim Steidten target if true.

DIE_4_WHUFC

{Ed002's Note - I don't think West Ham have spoken to Chelsea but another side has had an offer rejected. Chelsea will not make a decision on his future until after pre-season. I would not discount a move for Broja.}

1.) 19 Jul 2023 12:38:17
Thanks Ed. Don't suppose you want to divulge who the other club was do you?

I would love for West Ham to show an interest.

{Ed002's Note - Burnley.}

2.) 19 Jul 2023 12:58:21
Wow, is it possible another player jumps ship. Cresswell in talks with Wolves? We are going to have nobody left at this rate!

3.) 26 Jul 2023 21:53:16
Being thrown to the Wolves is right re our transfer policy!

19 Jul 2023 11:53:27
So far this summer we have seen Manuel Lanzini depart at the end of his contract and we have sold both Arthur Masuaku and Declan Rice to Besiktas and Arsenal respectively.

According to reports, we are open to offers for Ben Johnson and Thilo Kehrer.

Wolves are interested in Aaron Cresswell and have apparently begun talks with West Ham about a transfer.

Nikola Vlasic and Gianluca Scamacca are both being continuously linked to Italy and Danny Ings and Michail Antonio are also apparently available should a good enough offer come in.

At this rate, we are going to have a pretty small squad next season. I know we are being linked to a lot of players, but Eds, are we actually close to signing anyone?

DIE_4_WHUFC

{Ed002's Note - "Close" is a subjective term but West Ham are actively pushing to sign players and talking with clubs.}

1.) 19 Jul 2023 12:40:18
Thanks Ed.

Hopefully some clear signs of progress being made in our transfer talks will start to show in the near future.

13 May 2022 11:40:40
I wrote a post that was turned in to an article by the Eds (proud day for me) a couple of months back entitled "Where I would love to see West Ham United come the start of next season" and in it I went through the current squad, highlighted the outgoings and who I thought we should target in January and over the Summer. This article is version 2.

DIE_4_WHUFC

1.) 13 May 2022 12:31:43
I fear we are going to be linked with every player and his dog again in another typical west ham transfer winbdow. Sullivans recent "Declan Rice Contract Rumour" is a typical example of how he likes to be in the news

2.) 13 May 2022 13:18:58
Thanks for posting Eds

{Ed033's Note - Thanks for posting, DIE_4_WHUFC.

3.) 13 May 2022 22:23:31
Good article and some interesting opinions on who we should get. One correction though, the club had a two year option on Ben Johnson contract which they triggered when negotiations were not successfully concluded, so his contract does not run out this June, but I read they will negotiate again in the summer.

4.) 14 May 2022 20:20:21
Not a fan of JOHNSON to be fair he needs coaching on how to cross the ball but for me not good enough

5.) 20 May 2022 15:42:53
Die-4, fantastic article and really well considered . I like all your priority choices but having seen him on Wednesday night I’d add Bassey to that list of players to purchase . Thanks for writing it, great discussion piece!

Really good read that.

Those midfielders you mentioned in zakaria, Kessie and Koumara would all be upgrades on kral and noble. I feel like one of those would be good enough to replace both in the squad.

Another player we were linked to years ago I thought would be a quality signing was Sangare before he went to PSV his stats are insane.

As much as i like lanzini If he continues his form it might be the right time to cash in on him and replace him with someone younger although I'd be happy for him to stay I'd have no qualms if we brought in one of those attackers you mentioned someone like a a damsgaard or a Doku, there are some good young attacking midfielders in championship aswell the likes of Lewis Potter and brennan Johnson.

We've been linked to a few new CBs today in, Gleison Bremer, Nayef Aguerd and Abdou Diallo who can also play LB. I think Botman would be my number one choice but it looks like he's been lured to Newcastle for money.

Did anyone else notice that Edson Alvarez, despite being signed in time to play Bournemouth, didn't even feature on the bench at the weekend?

Is he injured?

Is he unfit?

Or was it just a case of Moyes not so subtly saying "I ain't going to play players I don't want"?

DIE_4_WHUFC

1.) 15 Aug 2023 10:31:51
Allegedly, he wasn’t ‘match fit’.

2.) 15 Aug 2023 11:18:25
Hardly surprising he has just come back from holiday

09 Aug 2023 11:09:56
We've apparently agreed £30 million deals for Harry Maguire and James Ward-Prowse.

I am actually not sure how I feel about this. I'd rather we were signing Taylor Harwood-Bellis instead of Maguire and Connor Gallagher instead of James Ward-Prowse. It would have cost the same sort of money to sign those two (£45 million for Gallagher and £15 million for Harwood-Bellis).

DIE_4_WHUFC

1.) 09 Aug 2023 11:54:02
Maguire will be a liability and Ward-Prowse has only one element to his game. If anyone had any doubts about our management setup, then this is 100% proof that we are lumbered with a clueless, blinkered has-been in the driver's seat. With Paqueta looking more likely to be a Man City player next season, I can't see us in a relegation battle. We are nailed on certainties for the Championship. What a waste.

2.) 09 Aug 2023 12:12:02
At least you're feeling positive about the season ahead. That's the main thing.

3.) 09 Aug 2023 12:21:57
Lmao paqueta gone next season? Try this season lol

4.) 09 Aug 2023 13:10:51
Osh, next season is the coming season. It hasn’t started yet!

5.) 09 Aug 2023 15:01:10
Think Ward-Prowse and Maguire are positive signings. Both internationals. Secondly, a question for many of you on this site. A number of you keep stating Fofana and Alvarez. How many of you had heard of these 2 players 6 months back? I ask, as many people on here have excellent European football knowledge and follow Dutch and French football, therefore, your expert knowledge of the said players positives and negatives would be appreciated.

6.) 09 Aug 2023 15:10:32
Mark, i'd rather drag my balls across broken glass than have maguire. He's a liability and just shocking.

27 Jun 2023 16:02:37
There has been talk of a player and cash deal being contemplated for Rice (be it Arsenal, Man City or Man U), which got me thinking.

Roma apparently want Gianluca Scamacca but don't have the money or the desire to stump up the money we want for him (which I imagine is as close to the £35.5 million we paid for him last summer). Well apparently we like the look of Bryan Reynolds (valued at £8 million) and Roger Ibanez (valued at £30 million). So why don't we offer a Scamacca and a little money for the pair of them?

Torino want Nikola Vlasic but don't have the money or the desire to stump up the previously agreed figure (£11 million), so why don't we offer them Vlasic and a little cash for Perr Schuurs (apparently valued at £30 million), who we are apparently interested in?

Obviously we wouldn't sign Ibanez AND Schuurs, but still.

DIE_4_WHUFC

1.) 27 Jun 2023 16:44:12
Because this makes far too much sense dude. We could also throw in Kehrer. Anyway Losing two players who don't want to play for Moyes and gaining defenders we desperately need would be great, sensible business and all the more reasons we won't do it lol

2.) 27 Jun 2023 17:54:54
Paqueta is a much better player than when we acquired him and is only mid twenties. 75k I value him at.

3.) 27 Jun 2023 18:38:46
75k More than that surely?

4.) 27 Jun 2023 20:57:53
If RICE is worth £100 mill then PAQUETA is worth on par very different players but they are at the right age but we cannot afford to lose both that's for sure.⚒⚒⚒

5.) 28 Jun 2023 14:22:34
WHats worrying is that we are APPARENTLY lining up ZAKARIA as RICE's replacement when these two are not in the same league!

6.) 29 Jun 2023 17:47:35
Agree on Paqueta evaluation

03 Sep 2021 13:14:29
So, who will be in the starting XI in our game against Southampton?

DIE_4_WHUFC

1.) 03 Sep 2021 14:43:00
We need to get over these bloody Qualifiers first to see who comes back injured or knackered! âš’âš’âš’âš’.

2.) 07 Sep 2021 08:59:15
I expect both Kral, Vlasic and Masuaku to be on the bench. At a guess, If there are no injuries during the game, I reckon Vlasic will come on for Bowen. Maybe Arthur will get some time too (on for Cresswell) . I can’t see Kral on unless Rice or Soucek get injured, or we are defending a slender leading (in which case he’ll come on for a AM and support Rice/ Soucek) .

Moyse habitually sticks with the team that is doing well.

Not posted for a while, but thought I'd throw something out there.

Wolves were close to signing Cresswell in the Summer, only for it to fail as we didn't have sufficient cover at left back.

I'd be tempted to offer Cresswell AND Ings for Kilman.

Kilman is a left sided central defender and has played left back in his career. Given that Emerson is CLEARLY our number one left back at the moment, we only need left back cover.

So to let Cresswell and Ings go in exchange, would get two higher earners off the books, two older players off the books, and would give us a 26 year old centre back that can also play left back.

You could argue that he isn't naturally good enough at left back, but you'd of said the same about Dan Burn before he was shifted out their to cover as well.

The strange thing about both of those signings, they are both right wingers. So unless we are looking to move Bowen up top or we see Bowen leaving, I am not sure why we are looking at them.

Attack wise, we need a forward or two and a left sided winger in the mould of Bowen (Harvey Barnes would have been perfect) .

I can see Cornet, Benrahma and Ings all being allowed to go if suitable offers come in.

Man City just spent an absolute fortune on a left sided centre back in the shape of Gvardiol and they have Ake who is also a left sided centre back. They simply don't need Aguerd.

Liverpool may well look to replace an aging Matip with Aguerd, and if they do, fine, get good money for him and buy a replacement. Simples.

Mohammed Kudus will be Pablo Fornals replacement

Hugo Ekitike or Youssef En Nesyri will be Gianluca Scamaccas replacement

Cody Drameh will be Ben Johnsons or Thilo Kehrers replacement at right back -IF one of them leaves

Ian Maatsen will HOPEFULLY be Aaron Cresswells replacement - IF he leaves

Jesse Lingard MIGHT then be signed on a free after the transfer window shuts. That will be our transfer business done

Interesting post TinLegs

I personally want to see a manager brought in that not only changes the style of play, but gets the best out of the players we have whilst giving youth a chance to showcase their talents, and improves results. I know, not asking for much am I? Hahaha

XABI ALONSO - like you, is hands down my first choice. His Leverkusen team is easy to watch, plays youth, excites the fans, scores goals and let's face it is tearing up the rule book in the Bundesliga. This being said, I agree, this will never be anything more than a dream. Especially with the Liverpool and Real Madrid jobs being available in the Summer.

ROBERTO DE ZERBI - is without a doubt my second choice and someone I think is more realistic option than Alonso. However, whilst I think he is more realistic, I still can't see it happening. I can only see him leaving Brighton for a team already in the top 6.

THOMAS FRANK - is a great shout and if there is the possibility of him being interested, I would definitely explore it. I just don't see it though. I think he's building a legacy at Brentford and unless they give him the boot or a top 6 side comes in for him, I think he is there to stay.

PAULO FONSECA - seems to have been linked with us and every other Premier League club with aspirations to break in to the top 6 for the last 5 years. He favours a possession game and wants to keep the ball in the oppositions half, and I think we are closer to having a squad capable of this style of football than we have been for a long time. He had a better record at Shakhtar than De Zerbi, and has experience of managing teams in Portugal, Italy and France as well. I think he's my first realistic candidate in this list if I am being honest.

ARNE SLOT - sticking with realistic candidates now, I think Arne Slot is definitely worth a mention. His teams play attractive, attacking football and he reminds me a little of Martin Jol.

MICHAEL CARRICK - I think is a very good option and a genuine candidate considering Middlesbrough look like an outside shot for promotion, so I think he'd be tempted by the bright lights of the Premier League. I can't quite shake the nagging feeling that whilst he'd change the style of play, I don't necessarily think he improve results. Middlesbrough aren't setting the world alight in the Championship.

KIERAN McKENNA - he is an interesting name to throw out there, and like Carrick I think is a very good option, but I thinkhis interest would be dependent on Ipswich and if they're promoted. Strangely, I don't have the same nagging feeling I have about Carrick.

GRAHAM POTTER - he did wonders at Brighton but didn't live up to the hype at Chelsea and completely failed to put his stamp on the club. I think he'd be a decent shout, but I can't shake the feeling his successes at Brighton were as a result of the club and not him?

WILL STILL - is definitely one for the future, but at this moment in time I feel there are better options we should consider.

GARY O'NEIL - improved Bournemouth and has improved Wolves. Likes to give youth opportunities and I suppose doesn't play an unattractive brand of football. However, this appointment just wouldn't excite me. Sorry.

Nickino, I was actually giving your post a little nod of agreement but you completely ruined it with the 40 points by Christmas comment, especially when you consider there are only 5 league games between now and Christmas.

EUROPA LEAGUE - Thur 30th Nov - Backa Topola v West Ham

PREMIER LEAGUE - Sun 3rd Dec - West Ham v Crystal Palace

PREMIER LEAGUE - Thur 7th Dec - Tottenham v West Ham

PREMIER LEAGUE - Sun 10th Dec - Fulham v West Ham

EUROPA LEAGUE - Thur 14th Dec - West Ham v Freiburg

PREMIER LEAGUE - Sun 17th Dec - West Ham v Wolves

EFL CUP - Wed 20th Dec - Liverpool v West Ham

PREMIER LEAGUE - Sat 23rd Dec - West Ham v Man U

So the maximum number of points we could have by Christmas, if we win all our league games, is 35 and if I am honest, the way we have been playing, we won't win all those league games, especially off the back of two midweek Europa League games

To an extent I agree, but I think to challenge the big boys we need more quality in depth.

We have a decent starting XI and we could definitely improve it with a top striker and two top full backs and be more solid defensively and more threatening on the attack, but should we get injuries or suspensions, we don't have the depth of Man City, Arsenal, Liverpool.
