I've just read that if Fulham get relegated we could move for Mitrovic, that's not a bad replacement for Carroll?

{Ed002's Note - He will certainly be available but the revised asking price after declared interest from two Chinese sides will scare off Spurs who want him as cover and a replacement for Llorente.}

I suppose it’s down to the player, then. Does he want to play regularly, or warm the bench and watch Kane?

And, of course, who will pay him the most?

{Ed002's Note - There has been no approach from West Ham, and no "bid gone in".}

I’m sure you’re right and I wouldn’t want him anyway IF we’re genuinely considering the likes of Gomez and/ or Marega.

I can see a serious clearout of our current 4 strikers.

{Ed002's Note - I very much doubt either will be joining West Ham.}

Is your doubt based on the idea that they are too high profile for WH? If we don’t strive for better players than we currently have, we will never improve.

It is indisputable that the overall squad quality went up last summer because the owners invested heavily and the new manager had the clout to bring in better upgrades.

I don’t know what our budget will be for the summer, but the departure of a tranche of high earners and their transfer price should put us in a decent position to upgrade yet again.

It might be a longish road, but as the squad improves and our results improve correspondingly, surely the higher profile players elsewhere might consider moving to us.

It would be interesting to hear your thoughts on strikers who you think should be realistic targets for the summer.

Markro, if the foreign players currently linked with us are bounty hunters then we have a chance, but realistically any of those that have ambition for European football, I don’t think we have any chance, unless we are a stepping stone? I know you are the eternal optimist Mark, which is great, I seem the opposite I know, but unless we put ourselves in the limelight for the right reasons, we will stay a mid table Premiership club, but it could be worse realistically! ⚒⚒⚒.

Oi! Stop raining on my parade!

I know, I know - but I can’t help but hope.

Don’t worry about being optimistic, it’s easy to say such and such isn’t interested, won’t happen, no bid etc as 90% of the time the rumours don’t come to fruition for any club. But I wouldn’t give up hope on Gomez just yet, but it will be harder than if we reached agreement in January.

To be fair, Ed is right - we seem to only want ready made players where weshould be buying young and selling big for a few years.
Look at what Southampton have achieved over the years and we can do it on a larger scale.

{Ed002's Note - OK, so to help out a little, I can give a small update on West Ham and some players they have shown interest in:

Mahlon Romeo (RB) West Ham have watched Romeo on a number of occasions this season and it is looking very likely that they will look to making an offer for a summer move
Diego Llorente (CB) has been watched by Marseille, Spurs, Atletico Madrid, Liverpool, West Ham, Fulham and Sevilla since joining Real Sociadad in the summer - Spurs could be tempted to make an offer as they expet TA to leave
Guillermo Maripan (CB) discussions are already in hand between Alaves and Roma - so West Ham would need to act quickly and figure out a way to persuade the player that a move to East London is more attractive than a move to Rome
Francisco Ferreira (CB) - Benfica won't want to sell Ferro and would want far too much for WHU to pay
Franco Vazquez (CM) has been of interest to West Ham since last summer and he made clear that he was not interested in a midseason move when West Ham made an approach in January - but the interest remains and I would expect another approach in the summer
Said Benrahma (S) Brentford are looking for £25M with both Spurs and West Ham showing an interest - the question will remain can he step up
Edin Dzeko (S) an enquiry has been made with his agent and if the price is low enough WHU may look to an offer, leaving enough funds to add another striker - but both Inter Milan and Everton are looking to him as well.}
