Markro, I knew nothing of Gomez until I saw his name linked to us on this site, have looked up some online info on him! If he’s that good he ain’t coming to us, why would he unless he’s a bounty hunter and we can pay more than any other club in Europe and I doubt that? Yes we pay bloody good money for some real rubbish by Premiership standards, simply because we get desperate imo, but if he’s any ambition I can’t see any point coming to a club that is so inconsistent unless our other South American players can convince him if they have any influence, so I personally think this is already dead in the water also given his €44m realease clause! Sorry to be pessimistic but that’s my realistic view on it!

Whose next?

Hi Marko

I did read that we may sign him and than loan back until next season, which we prob can reduce the fee by a couple mill.

I have looked at him he is 22 and a goal scorer, whether he can make it in the Prem has to be seen. £43m is a big sum for the club but if the DGS are willing to sanction and more importantly MP wants him I think we need to trust his judgement on this.

Looking at it logically if he comes has a crap season and does not look the part at his age we can get prob 3/ 4 of that back by transferring out, BUT and a big But if he comes hits the ground running and start to score goals his price would increase ( not that we should sell form players) and have a major asset on our hands, the caution bit is look at Morata who Chelsea has just loaned out to Ath Madrid for season he cost them I think a whopping £60 odd mill, transfers are a tricky business and always somewhat a gamble but if you do not speculate you do not accumulate. If MP wants him even if they loan him back his one in for the summer already

I would imagine a fair few players will be shipped out in the summer and some wanting to go ( Arnie? ) which hopefully will net us a nice few quid, MP should know for the start of next season what type of players he wants, I get the feeling he has used this year to see what we do have. Next year without being over excited and the money it seems may be spent expect a really strong campaign, OK i'm not talking CL but at least pushing in and around the 6th and 7th place and a fine Cup run, I do not think that an unrealistic way to look at things.

What I have read I would say Gomez is a 65 % chance.

I’d say there’s zero chance of us signing Gomez in this window. Squad needs some major additions in the summer as we replace Masuaka, Obiang, Carroll, Hernandez and Perez as a minimum.

According to papers/ twitter its about 90%
Personally I cannot see him signing whilst we keep Arnie, reckon Arnie will go the moment summer transfer window opens and Maxi sign a couple of days later.

Gomez To me looks unlikely in this window Unless we are going to take our reserve money tank out in one go, A pre contract agreement, ? well that’s a Maybe but risky what if he’s injured at Celta in the meantime? with Arnie staying, can’t see it in this window For me as I began yesteday WH wil, take a poke at Che Adams Hoping against hope we can somehow get shot of Perez for time being anyway and perhaps just possibly Hernandez OXFORD despite stories waving about of a plethora of offers there has been NOT one official bid to buy up till now so a loan anywhere looks more likely once again, it’s high time we got rid of this guy. — moving on —+CARROLL not one peep from anywhere are you surprised of course not WH cannot wait to get rid, IRONMIKE.

I’m sticking to my Gomez synopsis of last week, I think he's the right man for WH, contrary to most peoples thoughts I think he has the lot and the age to go with it, we will be fortunate to sign him yes Celta are struggling, but not because of Gomez If we can nail him he will get 20 plus In our league with the service we can provide IRONMIKE.

Interesting people say they haven’t heard of him or about him. He has been a good striker for Uruguay and would be great to land him. I doubt that’s happening now as Celta Vigo won’t release easily and if we bid the release fee not sure he will come unless a lot of pre work with him has gone on through agents.

The balance of opinion and some new reporting elsewhere (including the usually reliable “Ex”) suggest that we will not sign Gomez this window.

If true - I’m hugely disappointed.

Looks like we will sign him now, loan him back for the rest of the season then sell Arnie in the summer when Gomez joins us. Looks like a good plan too (really is getting our summer business done early! )

gomez is basically a younger arnie without the attitude and is also very good in the air. i'd love us to sign him up this window but it won't happen and if we wait until the sunmer he will be off to a bigger club.

billprosser, that would be a good deal taking the opinions of other posters remarks about him if he’s that good? Hope that deal has an injury proviso in it though if an agreement is done in January, time running out, also talk about a double deal as well for Labotka?

I would imagine there maybe some agreement in place already for Arnie. If they can secure Gomez now either in the window or on pre contract they should he is young and talented. If it means offloading Perez and Hernandez even at a loss I would do it and play some of our youngsters for the experience if we need too. Realistically our season is done excitement wise so it is building for the future time.

Gomez is a great all round striker, good age, strong, technical, good eye for goal and would be an upgrade on all our strikers bar Arnie (Arnie has more explosive speed IMO) . Gomez could be better though as he is still very young. I would take Belotti or Zapata also as they are also good all round strikers that would fit MP's game, and would do well with Anderson, Lanzini, Yarmolenko, Nasri, Wilshere and Diangana supporting them. We have been linked with some genuinely good strikers for once this window.
We won't get him this window 1%
Summer 30%
Any one of these three in summer 60%
Premier League is a tough league, there is NO GUARANTEE that anyone will do well in it, even if they perceive-ably have the attributes required. Look at all the players MP has spent £20m+ on in his years and it will give you confidence though, some fantastic names there.

Don't forget we have another 6,000 more season tickets sold. Now is it worth the gamble to sign Gomez. Yes it is if you want to join the big boys league. Its a no brainer, we have a premier Manager, A premier ground, and hopefully a premier board.

I don't think GOMEZ is worth no where near €50 million I have heard from friends that are experts in Spanish football and have told me he isn't worth close to that they have said 15 mill if that so we shall see but whenever they have told me about a player they were spot on only once were they slightly wrong but I don't think he will come anyway if he was that good he'd been the top clubs in the world and he ain't. NH19. glad to see someone threw Masuakus name in the mix as a “get rid of prospect”. Normally I would say some people are overlooked on their heat performances. I’m this case I think a masuaku is overlooked as a major liability. The fact that he was complicit in 3 of the goals scored against us against a struggling league one AFC Wimbledon demonstrated just what a garbage player he is. He either runs up the line trying to dribble players and then ultimately passes it backwards or he loses it trying to dribble and is out of position.

His positioning sense is no existent. Truly I have never seen a left back as bad play for the Hammers. He’s a nightmare and a complete numpty as a defender. I never saw him make a single tackle against AFC Wimbledon. Did anyone else. Masuaku I’d give away, hand on heart. My son who is 7 even tells me how hopeless he is! Rant over!

COYI64 I still think you are being kind when it comes to your assessment of Masuaku. A Bichon Frise dog would be more effective as a premier league LB.
Does anyone have a stats on our average goals conceded per game with and without Masuaku?
